FRANKLIN STREET

Garden Type: Residential, Potted

Mood: Minimalist, Meadows

The client was looking to create a warm space for outdoor dining, to soften the views of the city from the interior, and to have a kitchen garden for harvesting seasonal produce. To create a full garden in a limited space with no on-site soil, we brought in large glazed pots of varying heights and staggered them in the corners of the terrace. We filled the pots with hearty, wind-tolerant plant material that thrive in containers and create seasonal interest. A cedar raised bed was added to the sunniest area least effected by wind and houses seasonal vegetables which the client lovingly tends to and harvests from year-round. On some of the larger walls, we trained clematis and jasmine up trellises to give the space a more filled-in feel. The final product is a functional kitchen garden that softens and fills in the outdoor dining space and enriches the exterior view.

Plants: Arctostaphylos edmundsii, Salvia sp., Lavendula angustifolia, Rosmarinus prostratus, Seasonal Vegetables
